The Henrico Police Division announces a vacancy for the position of Crimes Analyst.
The Crimes Analyst is responsible for the collection, analysis, and dissemination of information and intelligence relating to crimes (violent crimes, property crimes, sex offenses, gang-related and financial crimes, etc.) This position supports Criminal Investigative Detectives and Patrol Bureau officers in their efforts to stay informed of crime trends and in the development of suspect and case leads. Interpreting crime report information from a variety of sources and making connections and links between persons, property, situations, and modus operandi is a primary function. Creating link charts, photo line-ups, and crime bulletins are frequently required.
These cases are oftentimes sensitive and complex that require the attention to details when reviewing reports, social media, video/audio recordings, or cell phone data to aid detectives in their investigations. Routinely being self-motivated to continue exploring and delving into the information or data to find the piece needed to solidify a lead.
Assigned tasks include, but are not limited to:
Performs in-depth data analysis using data sets from various Division databases related to offenses, calls for service, population demographics, and other metrics to create quarterly, annual, and ad hoc reports.
Performs research to aid other Division personnel in suspect development, trend analysis, and obtain various reports from outside entities.
Conducts data analysis and open-source research to identify patterns, trends, problems, offenders, and potential victims in support of our investigative function.
Routinely utilizes MS Excel (Pivot Tables/Charts/Graphs), MS Word, SSRS, and ArcGIS.
Utilizes with regularity CrimeNtel, Pen-Link, ArcGIS Pro, and Accurint Virtual Crime Center to research, analyze, chart, graph, map, and report on specific data sets.
Routinely reads, comprehends, and analyzes Daily Activity Reports from field operations to compile various intelligence bulletins or products.
Presents, interprets, explains, and defends analyses for the various information and intelligence products created.
Prepares comprehensive tactical, strategic, and administrative crime and intelligence products that are actionable and timely.
Presents analysis to other decision-makers in order to deploy officers to specific areas of the County experiencing crime series or elevated crime levels.
Ensures compliance with management of criminal intelligence in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Assists in completing various requests to support Patrol and Investigative efforts to include, but not limited to, searching social media, examine credit reporting data, research open sources, examine mobile phone data, compiling photographic line-ups, relational analysis, and examine criminal history and DMV reports.
Keeps abreast of current crime trends; trending software/tools for crime analysts; and legal guidance, codes, and laws related to confidentiality and intelligence use.
Ability to gain cooperation and work in conjunction with personnel and corresponding agencies.
Excellent skills in internet navigation and open-source intelligence gathering.
Performs related work as assigned.

These skills are necessary to produce logic-based analyses and make recommendations on probable and potential crime trends. This position receives general supervision and has a wide latitude for independent action and judgement.
Minimum Qualifications
Four (4) year degree in criminal justice, statistics or other related field preferred and two (2) years of relevant experience; OR, any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Additional Information
The expected hiring range for this position is $62,605.04 – $73,769.63 and will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.
Preferred relevant job experience including research, data collection and management, data or statistical analysis, mapping, and trending. Prior training and experience in ArcGIS and Crime Analysis software, cell phone analytic software (ZetX, TRAX, PenLink), data visualization software (Power BI), and social media platforms.
