Competing Data Ranges: How to Build Compstat in Power BI

Presenter: Kassie Langdon (Crime Analyst, Holly Springs Police Department, North Carolina)

In this session, attendees will learn how to design and develop an interactive CompStat report using Power BI. From data preparation and visualization best practices to creating dynamic dashboards that highlight key performance indicators, this presentation will guide users through the entire process. We’ll also tackle some of the more stubborn aspects of Power BI—like working with custom date ranges and time comparisons—to ensure your reports are both flexible and accurate. Whether you’re new to Power BI or looking to refine your existing reports, this session will provide practical tools and techniques to enhance crime analysis and support data-driven decision-making for law enforcement leadership. Mock data will be provided for those who wish to follow along.

This event is free for VCAN members and $10 for non-members.

Event is on Friday November 14, 2025, from 1pm – 3pm Eastern Time. Registration closes at COB on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. Login details will be sent by COB on Wednesday November 12, 2025.
