At the Virginia Crime Analysis Network Fall Symposium we announced our 2025 Analyst Awards. It is our distinct pleasure to award the New Analyst of the Year to Crime Analyst Britton Corker (Roanoke Police Department). Britton joined Roanoke as a crime analyst in January 2025, and has had a tremendous impact on Roanoke PD crime analysis unit as well as the Roanoke Police Department as a whole. Britton returned to the RPD after retiring as a street crimes Sergeant several years ago. In the interim, Britton gained employment and experience working in database administration and information technology, and brought those skills back to RPD as a crime analyst. He has used those skills to provide significant upgrades to several workflows and procedures. A key example includes the use of automation in identifying micro-time hotspots, and being able to have an accurate update on existing hotspots by running a Python script. This has resulted in saving the crime analysis team several man-hours each week when reviewing microtime hotspots. Additionally, Britton has excelled in investigative/intelligence analysis. Using his street knowledge from over 5 years as a police officer, Britton has quickly been able to identify investigations that had stalled, and using his expert knowledge of relational databases in combination with state of the art technology employed by RPD, has advanced those investigations. Britton is also an expert at providing real time intelligence to officers in the field while stationed in RPD’s brand new real-time crime center. His experience in utilizing the radio in tandem with his ability to quickly locate needed information has made him an invaluable asset for the Roanoke Police Department. We congratulate Britton for being selected as the 2025 VCAN New Analyst of the Year!
