At the VCAN Fall Symposium, we announced our 2025 Analyst Awards. It is with great pleasure we congratulate the Roanoke iStar Crime Analysis Unit for being selected as the Analyst Team award winner! The iSTAR Unit was directly involved in significant investigations, including homicides and robberies. The team was directly responsible for locating vehicles of interest and video evidence that led to the identification and arrest of homicide and robbery offenders. The team has utilized a host of state of the art technology to identify vehicles of interest in a number of incidents, ranging from petty larceny to homicide. The team’s advanced training and work ethic have allowed numerous investigations to advance, when in years past those same investigations would have been stalled. The team actively assists numerous neighboring jurisdictions with their cases, which routinely led to suspect/vehicle identification and the advancement of investigations that had stalled. With the establishment of Roanoke’s real-time crime center (RTCC), the analysts in the iSTAR unit have truly blended the roles of crime analyst and intelligence analyst. In the first six weeks of the RTCC being open, the analysts logged over 30 “success stories” where the analysts/RTCC were directly involved in investigations or active calls that led to positive outcomes. In recognition of their role in supporting investigations, collaborating with regional partners, and contributing outstanding tactical, strategic, and administrative analysis, we are happy to award the Roanoke iStar Crime Analysis Unit as VCAN Analyst Team of 2025!
