The Felonious House: A Case Study (Law Enforcement Only)

Presenter: Sabrina Potts, Crime Analyst, Shawnee (KS) Police Department

Presentation Abstract: In early November 2017, Shawnee, KS residents began being vocal on a social media site about a local crime issue. At that time, residents were not filing police reports, but within a few weeks, 18 cases of auto burglaries, auto thefts and recovered stolen autos were reported in a single neighborhood.

The Shawnee Police Department created a STORM (Strategic and Tactical Operation to Reduce Misconduct) Project that focused on this area and soon discovered a single residence and its occupants were connected to those 18 crimes and as well as continuing growing number of new cases.

This class will examine the project from November 2017 to May 2018 and the rolls each department in the Shawnee Police Department played. The class will primarily focus on the analyst’s roll and the products created by the analyst.

Event is from 1pm - 3pm Eastern Daylight Time. Registration closes at COB on Tuesday, August 10, 2021. Login details will be sent by COB on Wednesday, August 11, 2021.
