SQL for Crime Analysis

Presenter: Matthew Harris (Crime Analyst, Sonoma County Sheriff's Office)

Presentation Abstract: This webinar will overview the basic principles of connecting to law enforcement database systems and the use of Structured Query Language (SQL) to answer your analytical questions. We will start by discussing the process of connecting to database systems and the possible roadblocks you might face. Then we will cover the process of exploring your data structure to learn and understand how your data is formatted and where it is stored. Next, we will transition into the basic elements of a SQL statement and how you can use them to decide which data to display and how to manipulate it. Lastly, we will cover some sample queries for administrative, strategic, and tactical Crime Analysis. If time remains at the end we can have interactive questions and answers to cover attendee questions.

This presentation will be recorded.
